This polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets human HPRT1 (hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase), a constitutively expressed enzyme of the purine salvage pathway that converts hypoxanthine to inosine monophosphate and guanine to guanosine monophosphate. Raised in rabbit and supplied as an unconjugated preparation in a 100 µl vial, it is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows on human samples, with the unconjugated format allowing users to conjugate the reagent to their preferred reporter or label as needed for a given experiment.

Because HPRT1 transcription and protein levels remain relatively stable across many tissues and cultured cell lines, the antibody is frequently deployed as a loading control alongside targets of interest in immunoblotting, and the same stability profile makes it useful as a reference signal for normalization in IHC when tissue-to-tissue comparison is required. Investigators studying Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, Kelley-Seegmiller syndrome, gout, or general purine metabolism pathways rely on HPRT1 as a biochemical marker, and the polyclonal host response to the immunogen provides broader epitope coverage than a monoclonal reagent, increasing the chance of detecting endogenous protein across different sample preparations and lysis conditions.
