The antibody recognizes HPRT (hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase), a constitutively expressed housekeeping enzyme that catalyzes the purine salvage reactions converting hypoxanthine to inosine monophosphate and guanine to guanosine monophosphate. Because HPRT is transcribed from a housekeeping gene with stable expression across many human cell lines and primary tissues, antibodies against this target are widely used as loading controls alongside β-actin, GAPDH, and vinculin in immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry workflows.

The Antibodies.com product is a rabbit polyclonal, unconjugated primary antibody supplied as 100 µL of liquid stock in a vial, validated by the manufacturer for Western blot, immunofluorescence, and IHC on human specimens. The unconjugated format permits flexible pairing with HRP-, fluorophore-, or biotin-conjugated secondary reagents depending on the chosen detection chemistry. Beyond its loading-control role, the reagent supports research into Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, Kelley-Seegmiller syndrome, and gout, all of which involve reduced HPRT enzymatic activity, as well as broader studies of purine metabolism, nucleotide biosynthesis, and T-lymphocyte proliferation.

The polyclonal rabbit host typically yields a robust signal with good tolerance for minor conformational variation in the target, and the unconjugated IgG is suitable for in vitro research use across standard immunodetection platforms.
