This polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is raised in rabbit against HP1γ, also known as chromobox protein homolog 3 (CBX3), a chromodomain-containing chromatin reader that binds histone H3 trimethylated at lysine 9 (H3K9me3). HP1γ participates in heterochromatin maintenance, transcriptional silencing, and the DNA damage response, and is broadly expressed across human, mouse, and rat tissues.

The unconjugated antibody is supplied as 100 µl of liquid in a vial, suitable for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA workflows. Polyclonal sera recognize multiple epitopes across the target, which is helpful when probing for full-length CBX3 versus modified or truncated forms, and the unconjugated format permits downstream labeling with fluorophores, biotin, or HRP depending on the detection chemistry required.

Researchers investigating epigenetic marks, nuclear architecture, or chromatin-associated factor recruitment commonly use HP1γ as a marker of pericentric heterochromatin and as a reference for comparative studies against HP1α and HP1β paralogs. The cross-reactivity across human, mouse, and rat species makes the reagent practical for studies spanning cell line panels, primary rodent tissue, and clinical samples.

Storage should follow standard polyclonal antibody handling: aliquot upon receipt and store frozen at -20°C for long-term use, with short-term handling at 4°C, and protect from light to preserve activity. For Western blot, working dilutions should be determined empirically for each lysate preparation; for IHC on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue, antigen retrieval and blocking conditions should be optimized around the chromodomain epitope.
