HP1α (Heterochromatin Protein 1 alpha), encoded by the CBX5 gene, is a chromodomain-containing non-histone protein that recognizes methylated histone H3 lysine 9 residues and acts as a central organizer of constitutive heterochromatin in mammalian cells.

This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is supplied as 100 µL of antibody solution and is reactive with both human and mouse samples, supporting cross-species chromatin and epigenetics studies. The polyclonal format enables recognition of multiple epitopes on the target, which is useful when probing dynamic HP1α-containing complexes where post-translational modifications can mask individual binding sites.

Validated applications include western blot on whole-cell lysates, immunohistochemistry on paraffin-embedded tissue sections, immunofluorescence microscopy of nuclear heterochromatin foci, and ELISA. The unconjugated format allows end users to conjugate the antibody to a reporter of choice, such as HRP or a fluorophore, for tailored detection in studies of chromatin biology, gene silencing, and nuclear organization.
