HMGCL catalyzes the final step of ketogenesis in the mitochondrial matrix, cleaving HMG-CoA into acetyl-CoA and acetoacetate, and also serves as the terminal enzyme of leucine catabolism. Researchers investigating fatty-acid oxidation disorders, ketone-body metabolism, inherited HMG-CoA lyase deficiency, and metabolic remodeling in hepatic or tumor tissue can use this reagent on denatured, reduced lysates of human cells and tissue homogenates resolved by SDS-PAGE.
