Description

A rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is raised against HMGA1 and validated for Western blot (WB), with reactivity against human and mouse samples. The unconjugated reagent is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2. Immunisation used a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues in human HMGA1, and the antibody detects endogenous levels of HMGA1 protein. Purification was carried out by affinity chromatography from rabbit antiserum using an epitope-specific immunogen, giving a purity greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE. The predicted molecular weight of the target is approximately 17 kDa, and the product is supported by at least one scientific validation image.

HMGA1 belongs to the high mobility group (HMG) family of chromatin proteins, which bind with high affinity to the minor groove of AT-rich DNA sequences. Binding has been reported to induce DNA bending and unwinding of the helix, and HMG proteins can synergise with transcription factors such as Oct-2, NF-κB family members, ATF-2 and c-Jun to activate transcription. Phosphorylation of HMG proteins has been described as required to stimulate their transcriptional activity. Human HMG-I/HMG-Y contains two DNA-binding domains, termed HMG boxes, and HMG proteins can bind single-stranded DNA while inducing conformational changes in double-stranded DNA.
