Anti-HMBS Antibody

A rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets HMBS, also known as porphobilinogen deaminase (PBGD) or hydroxymethylbilane synthase, a cytoplasmic enzyme of the heme biosynthesis pathway. The antibody is unconjugated, validated for Western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC), and reacts with Human, Mouse and Rat samples.

It was raised against recombinant full-length Human HMBS and detects endogenous levels of HMBS protein. The antibody is affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen, with purity greater than 95% by SDS-PAGE. The reported molecular weight of HMBS is approximately 39 kDa. The product is supplied at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol. HMBS/PBGD belongs to the hydroxymethylbilane synthase family. Deficiency of PBGD is associated with errors in pyrrole metabolism and an inherited autosomal disorder called acute intermittent porphyria (AIP), characterised by acute attacks of neurological dysfunction accompanied by hypertension, tachycardia, peripheral neurologic disturbances, abdominal pain, and excessive amounts of aminolevulinic acid and porphobilinogen in the urine.
