Histone H2AX, a variant of the core histone H2A, undergoes rapid phosphorylation at Ser139 to form γ-H2AX foci at sites of DNA double-strand breaks, making it one of the most widely used molecular markers of DNA damage and chromatin remodeling in mammalian cells.
The Antibodies.com reagent is a rabbit polyclonal raised against H2AX, supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated liquid and validated for Western blot (WB) and immunofluorescence (IF) on human samples. Polyclonal recognition of multiple epitopes on the H2AX protein supports detection across different post-translational states, useful when probing damage responses alongside γ-H2AX-specific antibodies.
Common research uses include tracking ionizing-radiation and genotoxic-stress responses, investigating chromatin alterations during the cell cycle, examining checkpoint signaling in cancer models, and characterizing repair pathway dynamics in fixed cells and lysates. For best results, aliquot upon arrival, store refrigerated, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles to preserve antibody activity across many experiments.
