A polyclonal affinity reagent from Antibodies.com raised against HEXA, the catalytic alpha subunit of the lysosomal enzyme beta-hexosaminidase A. HEXA is the gene mutated in Tay-Sachs disease, where loss of functional Hex A leads to GM2 ganglioside accumulation and progressive neurodegeneration. Researchers use this antibody to investigate ganglioside catabolism, lysosomal enzyme biogenesis, and genotype-phenotype relationships in GM2 gangliosidosis. Validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry, the antibody cross-reacts with Human, Mouse, and Rat samples, enabling comparative studies across patient-derived tissue and rodent disease models.

Supplied as 100 µl at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, the reagent retains activity through routine freeze-thaw handling, and the included sodium azide acts as a microbial preservative for working aliquots kept refrigerated for short-term use. Common applications include probing Hex A subunit expression in brain and peripheral tissues, mapping subcellular localization to lysosomes, and tracking HEXA transcript or protein changes in cellular or animal models of lysosomal storage disease. The unconjugated format allows flexible pairing with secondary antibodies or direct detection chemistries such as HRP, fluorophore, or biotin conjugates, supporting custom assay design in immunoblotting, immunofluorescence, and chromogenic IHC workflows.
