Haptoglobin (HP) is a liver-derived acute-phase glycoprotein that captures free hemoglobin released during intravascular hemolysis, forming a complex cleared by CD163-positive macrophages via the reticuloendothelial system. This polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets haptoglobin and supports detection across multiple species and platforms. Raised in rabbit, the unconjugated reagent is supplied at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, packaged as a 100 µl aliquot suitable for routine laboratory use.

Validated applications include Western blot for analyzing haptoglobin expression and subunit composition in serum, tissue lysates, and conditioned media, plus immunohistochemistry for visualizing HP localization in liver, spleen, and inflamed tissues. Cross-reactivity is confirmed for human, mouse, and rat samples, enabling translational studies that compare hemolysis markers, acute-phase responses, and iron recycling across model organisms. Researchers studying anemia, inflammatory disease, hepatic injury, and cardiovascular risk stratification rely on robust haptoglobin detection to evaluate Hp1-1, Hp2-1, and Hp2-2 phenotypes and their functional consequences.

For research use only. The polyclonal format provides broader epitope coverage than monoclonal alternatives, which can be advantageous when investigating genetic variants, post-translational modifications, or degradation fragments of haptoglobin.
