This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets haptoglobin, an acute-phase plasma glycoprotein synthesized predominantly by hepatocytes. Haptoglobin binds free hemoglobin liberated during intravascular hemolysis, forming a stable complex that macrophages clear via the CD163 receptor. By sequestering hemoglobin iron, the protein limits oxidative tissue injury, renal iron loss, and downstream kidney damage, making it a relevant marker in studies of hemolytic anemia, hepatic injury, cardiovascular disease, and acute inflammation.

Validated for Western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC), the unconjugated antibody is supplied at 100 µg per vial and has been confirmed reactive with mouse and rat samples. The polyclonal format enables recognition of multiple epitopes across the haptoglobin tetramer, supporting consistent detection of both α and β subunits under varying experimental conditions. Staining patterns localize to hepatocytes and renal tubular epithelium, consistent with hepatic synthesis and renal handling of the hemoglobin-haptoglobin complex.

Store refrigerated upon arrival, aliquot to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and pair with a user-selected secondary antibody. The unconjugated format supports direct conjugation, custom assay development, and downstream applications in cell biology, hematology, and acute-phase response research.
