Hepcidin, encoded by the HAMP gene, is a small liver-derived peptide hormone that acts as the master regulator of systemic iron homeostasis. It controls circulating iron by binding the transmembrane exporter ferroportin on enterocytes, macrophages, and hepatocytes, triggering internalization and lysosomal degradation of the transporter and thereby limiting dietary absorption and release from storage sites. Perturbations in hepcidin expression are implicated in hereditary hemochromatosis (including juvenile forms driven by HAMP mutations), anemia of chronic inflammation, and iron-loading anemias.

This rabbit polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com is raised against HAMP and validated for Western blot detection. It is supplied unconjugated in a 100 µl volume, ready to pair with standard HRP- or fluorophore-labeled secondary antibodies of choice. The polyclonal format increases the probability of recognizing the hepcidin precursor pro-hepcidin as well as its processed mature forms.

Reactivity has been confirmed in human and mouse samples, supporting studies in iron metabolism, hepatic biology, and inflammatory signaling pathways such as the IL-6 / JAK-STAT axis that drives HAMP transcription during infection and chronic inflammation. For short-term use, refrigerate the antibody; for longer-term storage, aliquot and freeze at -20 °C to minimize loss of activity from repeated freeze-thaw cycling.
