This polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com targets glycogen synthase 1 (GYS1), the muscle-predominant isoform of the rate-limiting enzyme that converts UDP-glucose into glycogen through α-1,4-glycosidic linkages. Raised in rabbit and supplied unconjugated at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline containing 0.05% sodium azide (approximately pH 7.3), the reagent is intended for western blot detection of the human, mouse, and rat target.

GYS1 is most strongly expressed in skeletal muscle, where its activity is regulated through phosphorylation at key serine residues in response to insulin and other metabolic signals. Research applications include studies of insulin signaling, glycogen metabolism, glycogen storage disease type 0, and exercise physiology. Each 100 µl vial supports multiple blot experiments and should be aliquoted and stored at -20°C to limit freeze-thaw cycles; the included sodium azide acts as a preservative and should be considered when planning downstream labeling reactions.
