Glycophorin C (GYPC) is a heavily glycosylated transmembrane sialoglycoprotein expressed on the surface of human erythrocytes, where it contributes to red cell membrane structure and serves as a key attachment receptor for Plasmodium falciparum during merozoite invasion. This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets the human GYPC protein for detection across multiple experimental platforms and is supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated antiserum.

The antibody supports Western blot analysis of erythrocyte membrane preparations, immunohistochemistry on fixed tissue sections, and immunofluorescence staining of cultured cells and primary hematopoietic samples. Polyclonal reactivity broadens epitope coverage, which can be useful when probing denatured targets or surveying endogenous GYPC expression in less-characterised samples. The unconjugated presentation lets end-users pair the antibody with their preferred fluorophore, enzyme reporter, or biotin label depending on the downstream detection method.

Researchers studying blood group antigens, hereditary spherocytosis variants linked to GYPC, malaria host-pathogen interactions, and erythroid lineage markers in flow cytometry and microscopy workflows commonly rely on this reagent. Brief centrifugation of the vial before opening recovers any material that may have collected at the base during transit, and the reagent should be handled according to standard polyclonal antibody practice, including aliquoting to limit freeze-thaw cycles and protect reagent activity over long-term storage.
