GSTM5 belongs to the cytosolic Mu class of glutathione S-transferases, a family of phase II detoxification enzymes that catalyze the conjugation of reduced glutathione to electrophilic substrates and thereby help protect cells from oxidative stress and xenobiotic insult. In cancer biology, the GSTM5 locus has been reported to undergo epigenetic silencing through promoter CpG hypermethylation in cutaneous melanoma lesions relative to matched normal skin, which is why immunodetection of the encoded protein in tumor tissue is of ongoing research interest.

The antibody is affinity-purified, unconjugated, and reactive with human GSTM5.
