GRP78 (also known as BiP and HSPA5) is a 78 kDa endoplasmic reticulum chaperone of the HSP70 family that drives the unfolded protein response by assisting nascent protein folding and acting as a sentinel for ER stress. The antibody is a rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com raised against the GRP78 target, supplied as a 100 µl vial at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a stabilizer. It is unconjugated and validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry, with reactivity to human, mouse, and rat samples demonstrated by the manufacturer.

Common research applications include monitoring GRP78 induction in cell lysates after treatment with ER stress inducers such as thapsigargin or tunicamycin, probing ER-enriched subcellular fractions, and localizing GRP78 expression in fixed tissue sections by IHC. The reagent is used in studies of cancer biology, where surface-translocated GRP78 is implicated in tumor survival and chemoresistance, as well as in neurodegeneration, ischemic injury, and diabetes research where disrupted ER proteostasis is a key pathological feature. Store refrigerated upon arrival, protect from light, and aliquot to limit freeze-thaw cycles.
