Targeting the GRIK5 gene product (glutamate ionotropic receptor kainate type subunit 5, also known as GluK5 or KA2), this polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is raised in rabbit, validated for Western Blot in human, mouse, and rat samples, and is delivered unconjugated.

This kainate-family ionotropic glutamate receptor subunit contributes to fast excitatory synaptic transmission and modulates presynaptic neurotransmitter release across central nervous system synapses. Association of GRIK5 with the GluK1 to GluK4 subunits is required to assemble functional high-affinity kainate receptors at the plasma membrane, and altered GluK5 expression has been reported in seizure models, Huntington's disease tissue, and certain schizophrenia-associated pathways.

Supplied as 100 µl of liquid at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, the antibody is packaged in a single vial for immunoblotting workflows that probe endogenous receptor expression in cell and tissue lysates. The polyclonal format presents a broad epitope pool, useful for detecting conformational variants or post-translational modifications of the GluK5 subunit that a single monoclonal clone could miss. Used in neuroscience, ion channel biology, and synaptic signaling research, the reagent supports studies of kainate receptor assembly, axonal trafficking, and surface expression in primary neurons. The 50% glycerol cryoprotectant allows convenient storage at -20 °C, and aliquoting on arrival is recommended to limit freeze-thaw cycles of the stock solution.
