Localised to the dendritic tips of retinal ON-bipolar cells, GPR179 is an orphan G protein-coupled receptor that operates within the mGluR6 signaling cascade to convert photoreceptor glutamate release into bipolar cell depolarization. Loss-of-function mutations in GPR179 cause autosomal recessive complete congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB1E), underscoring the receptor's non-redundant role in post-photoreceptor visual signal transmission.

This rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is raised against human and mouse GPR179 and validated for Western blot detection of the endogenous receptor. The reagent is supplied as 100 µl of affinity-purified Ig at 1 mg/ml in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant, allowing storage at standard laboratory freezer temperatures and limiting damage from repeated freeze-thaw events. Unconjugated and produced in rabbit, it slots directly into immunoblotting workflows that include denaturing SDS-PAGE separation, transfer to nitrocellulose or PVDF membranes, and chemiluminescent readout of GPR179 from retinal homogenates, transfected cell lines, and heterologous expression systems. Researchers characterising mGluR6 pathway components, TRPM1 channel regulation, or the molecular basis of inherited retinal disorders can use this reagent as a specific probe for monitoring GPR179 protein expression across human and mouse samples.
