The 523-amino-acid enzyme localizes to mitochondria, where it catalyzes the ATP-dependent phosphorylation of (R)-glycerate to 3-phospho-(R)-glycerate, feeding serine degradation, fructose metabolism, and one-carbon folate pathways.
