Raised in rabbits and affinity-purified against an internal peptide region of human glycine receptor subunit alpha-1, this unconjugated polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com detects endogenous GLRA1 protein in Western blot workflows. The 48 kDa alpha-1 subunit assembles into pentameric ligand-gated chloride channels that mediate fast inhibitory neurotransmission on postsynaptic membranes of spinal cord and brainstem neurons. In human, mouse, and rat samples, the antibody is paired with HRP- or fluorophore-conjugated secondary antibodies of the user's choice, since the unconjugated format offers flexibility in detection chemistry.

The alpha-1 subunit is best known as the molecular target of loss-of-function mutations underlying hereditary hyperekplexia, a neonatal-onset startle disorder characterized by exaggerated acoustic startle responses and transient muscular rigidity. More than 60 GLRA1 mutations have been catalogued, with the R271L substitution among the most frequently observed. Researchers investigating glycinergic inhibition, ion channelopathies, and synaptic signaling use this reagent to probe receptor expression, subunit composition, and membrane trafficking in cell culture and tissue lysates.

Each vial contains 200 µl of ready-to-use reagent. For long-term storage, aliquot and freeze at -20°C, then limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles to preserve antibody activity. Store refrigerated and protect from light. Research use only.
