Anti-GJC2 Antibody

Raised in rabbit against a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the C-terminal of human gap junction protein gamma 2, this unconjugated polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com recognizes Connexin 47 (Cx47), the ~47 kDa transmembrane channel subunit encoded by the GJC2 gene. Antibodies.com supplies the affinity-purified antibody as a 200 µl liquid in PBS (pH 7.3) containing 0.05% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, validated on endogenous protein in human, mouse, and rat samples for western blot and immunohistochemistry.

Because Cx47 is concentrated at oligodendrocyte cell bodies and at gap junctions that couple oligodendrocytes to astrocytes in white matter, this reagent is routinely used to map connexin distribution in rodent and primate optic nerve, brainstem, and spinal cord sections, and to probe oligodendrocyte-enriched lysates. Published work has applied Cx47 antibodies of this type to characterize loss-of-function mutations associated with Pelizaeus-Merzbacher-like disease (PMLD), hypomyelinating leukodystrophy type 2 (HLD2), and hereditary spastic paraplegia type 44 (SPG44), as well as disrupted SOX10-to-GJC2 transcription in myelination disorders. The predicted molecular weight of the target is approximately 47 kDa on SDS-PAGE.
