The GJC1 gene encodes Connexin 45 (Cx45), a gap junction protein that assembles into hexameric connexons and docks between adjacent cells to permit direct ionic and metabolic coupling. Cx45 is distributed across the cardiac conduction system, central nervous system, vascular smooth muscle, and several epithelia, and has been investigated for its role in atrioventricular nodal conduction, neuronal synchronization during development, and gap junction remodeling following ischemic injury. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry on human samples and is supplied as 100 µL of liquid.

Because Cx45 is an integral membrane protein with a predicted molecular weight near 45 kDa, immunoblotting workflows rely on enriched membrane preparations or whole-cell lysates prepared under reducing conditions, with the target detected near the predicted mass. For immunohistochemistry, fixed tissue sections benefit from heat-induced epitope retrieval in citrate or EDTA buffer prior to incubation, allowing intracellular loops of the connexin to be exposed to the antibody. The unconjugated format allows pairing with HRP-, alkaline phosphatase-, or fluorophore-conjugated secondaries for chromogenic or fluorescence-based detection.

For handling, the antibody should be kept refrigerated for short-term use, with longer-term storage in single-use aliquots frozen at -20°C to preserve activity; repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided. Each vial is intended for research use only in studies of human gap junction biology.
