Anti-GJA1 Antibody

Raised in rabbits against the gap junction alpha-1 protein, this unconjugated polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com is supplied as a 200 µl liquid aliquot in a single vial, affinity-purified and validated for Western Blot detection of the 43 kDa Connexin 43 band in human, mouse, and rat samples.

Connexin 43, encoded by GJA1 and also called Cx43, assembles into hexameric connexons that dock end-to-end at the plasma membrane to form intercellular channels, allowing direct cytoplasmic exchange of ions, second messengers, and metabolites below roughly 1 kDa. It is the most widely expressed connexin isoform, abundant in cardiac intercalated discs, neural tissue, osteoblasts, and epithelial sheets, where it coordinates electrical coupling, propagation of intercellular calcium waves, and tissue-level metabolic homeostasis. Its long C-terminal cytoplasmic tail is dynamically phosphorylated by Src, PKC, MAPK, and casein kinase 1 in response to growth factors, mechanical stretch, and ischemic injury.

Researchers apply this primary reagent to investigate cardiac arrhythmia and ischemia-reperfusion injury, wound re-epithelialization, osteoblast differentiation, neural crest migration, and gap junctional communication within the tumor microenvironment. The polyclonal format recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, improving the likelihood of detecting full-length Connexin 43 as well as post-translationally modified or truncated variants.
