Manufactured by Antibodies.com and supplied as a 100 µl vial, this unconjugated polyclonal rabbit IgG antibody recognizes Gap Junction Protein Alpha 1 (Connexin 43, Cx43), the predominant connexin isoform expressed across human, mouse, and rat tissues. The reagent is validated for Western blot detection of the full-length Cx43 protein, which migrates at approximately 43 kDa on SDS-PAGE and assembles into hexameric connexon hemichannels that pair across adjacent plasma membranes to build gap junctions.

These gap junction channels mediate direct intercellular passage of ions, small metabolites, and secondary messengers, supporting roles for Cx43 in cardiac electrical coupling, astrocyte-neuron communication, epidermal wound healing, lens transparency, and skeletal patterning. Researchers studying oculodentodigital dysplasia, cardiac arrhythmia substrates, glioblastoma invasion, and developmental gap junction remodeling routinely monitor Cx43 levels to track changes in intercellular coupling and membrane localization under different physiological and pathological conditions.

The polyclonal format increases the likelihood of recognizing multiple epitopes across the cytoplasmic loop and C-terminal regulatory domain of Cx43, both regions rich in phosphorylation sites that modulate channel assembly and gating. To preserve activity, aliquot the antibody upon arrival and store frozen between uses; dilute in BSA-supplemented buffer for blocking and pair with HRP-conjugated secondary reagents for chemiluminescent signal capture on Western blot membranes.
