A recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibody from Antibodies.com that targets glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), the class III intermediate filament and principal cytoskeletal marker of mature astrocytes in the central nervous system. The unconjugated reagent is supplied at 100 µl per vial in a buffer of TBS pH 7.4 with 1% BSA, 40% glycerol, and 0.05% sodium azide as preservative.

Validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunoprecipitation, the antibody cross-reacts with human, mouse, and rat GFAP and is used widely in neuroscience, neurotoxicology, and glial cell biology. Researchers rely on GFAP immunolabeling to characterize astrocyte activation, reactive gliosis, and glial scar formation following traumatic brain injury, ischemia, or neurodegeneration, and to study Alexander disease, an intermediate filament disorder caused by GFAP mutations.

In Western blot, the antibody recognizes the characteristic ~50 kDa band. Aliquot upon receipt, store refrigerated short term, and freeze at -20 °C for longer-term storage; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles to preserve binding activity.
