A rabbit polyclonal IgG reagent raised against Growth Differentiation Factor 15 (GDF15), a divergent stress-responsive cytokine of the TGF-β superfamily historically known as MIC-1, NAG-1, PDF, PLAB, and PTGFB, and now mapped to the GDNF-family receptor α-like (GFRAL)/Ret signaling axis that governs appetite, energy expenditure, and the anorexia-cachexia syndrome. This unconjugated preparation is validated by the manufacturer for western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, and immunoprecipitation, and detects the human, mouse, and rat orthologs, supporting cross-species profiling of endogenous ligand in cell lysates, tissue homogenates, and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections. Circulating GDF15 concentrations rise 10- to 100-fold in advanced cancer and during mitochondrial or inflammatory stress, so the reagent is applied in cachexia biomarker studies, cardiovascular remodeling models, and metabolic adaptation screens that compare tumor-bearing, exercised, or drug-treated cohorts against naive controls. The polyclonal pool targets epitopes distributed across the full-length precursor, which broadens recognition across isoforms and processed forms that monoclonal clones anchored to a single site can miss. The antibody is supplied as a 100 µl liquid vial; aliquot upon first use and store at -20°C, avoiding repeated freeze-thaw cycles to preserve reactivity across long-running studies. Reducing SDS-PAGE with transfer to PVDF or nitrocellulose, and chromogenic IHC with citrate-based antigen retrieval, are the workflow formats documented for this lot. Studies of Smad2/3 phosphorylation downstream of ligand engagement, or of GFRAL-expressing neurons in the area postrema and nucleus tractus solitarius, are common research contexts for the reagent. Sourced from Antibodies.com, the preparation is supplied for research use only.
