Produced in rabbit and supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated polyclonal antiserum, this primary reagent from Antibodies.com specifically recognizes human vitamin D-binding protein (GC, also known as Gc-globulin or group-specific component), an approximately 58 kDa plasma glycoprotein that binds and circulates vitamin D metabolites. Validated applications include Western blot detection of endogenous GC in cell and tissue lysates and immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections, where the reagent pairs cleanly with standard anti-rabbit HRP- or fluorophore-conjugated secondaries. Because the antibody is unconjugated, it slots directly into chromogenic DAB, immunofluorescence, or alkaline phosphatase workflows without the need for direct labeling. Researchers studying vitamin D metabolism, bone and mineral homeostasis, and inflammatory cell chemotaxis use anti-GC antibodies to track DBP expression and to investigate its conversion to the Gc macrophage-activating factor (Gc-MAF) precursor. The polyclonal format provides broader epitope coverage than a monoclonal, which is helpful when probing denatured targets on membranes or partially masked antigens in fixed tissue.
