Targeting UDP-galactose-4-epimerase (GALE), the cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the final step of the Leloir pathway by reversibly converting UDP-galactose to UDP-glucose, this rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is supplied as 100 µl at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% Sodium Azide and 50% glycerol. The unconjugated antibody is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry on human, mouse, and rat samples.

GALE occupies a central position in galactose catabolism and in the supply of UDP-galactose donors required for glycoprotein and glycolipid biosynthesis. Loss-of-function mutations in the GALE gene cause galactosemia type III, a clinically heterogeneous inherited metabolic disorder that can affect liver, kidney, and nervous system function, making anti-GALE reagents valuable for studies of disease mechanism and for characterization of patient-derived material. Demonstrated reactivity with mouse and rat orthologues additionally supports comparative work in rodent models of galactose-related pathology and broader investigations of nucleotide-sugar homeostasis.

For handling, keep the vial frozen at -20°C and protect from light; the 50% glycerol cryoprotectant limits freeze-thaw damage while 0.1% sodium azide serves as a microbial preservative during routine use. Aliquot upon first thaw to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, then dilute the 1 mg/ml stock into standard blocking buffer for immunoblotting or into antigen retrieval buffer for tissue section work.
