The Antibodies.com polyclonal antibody targets GAD67, the 67 kDa cytosolic isoform of glutamic acid decarboxylase encoded by the GAD1 gene. It is raised in rabbit and supplied as 100 µL of unconjugated antiserum in a single vial intended for Western blot and immunofluorescence workflows on human samples.

The antibody recognizes an epitope within the GAD1 protein, enabling visualization of GABAergic neurons and other GAD67-expressing cell types in brain tissue lysates, cultured neurons, and fixed-cell preparations. Because GAD67 catalyzes the conversion of L-glutamate to GABA, this reagent is widely used in neuroscience research on inhibitory neurotransmission, synaptic plasticity, and disorders such as epilepsy, stiff person syndrome, cerebellar ataxia, and type 1 diabetes, where anti-GAD autoantibodies serve as clinical markers.

Researchers apply the antibody to PVDF or nitrocellulose membranes following SDS-PAGE separation of cell or tissue extracts, or use it on cryosections and cultured cells to map subcellular localization of the enzyme. The unconjugated format allows flexible pairing with HRP-, fluorophore-, or biotin-conjugated secondary reagents chosen by the user, supporting both chromogenic and fluorescence detection strategies.
