Ferritin light chain (FTL) is the ~19 kDa light subunit of the 24-mer ferritin nanocage, the major intracellular iron-storage protein complex that sequesters redox-active ferrous iron as a bioavailable ferrihydrite mineral core. FTL is expressed in hepatocytes, splenic red pulp macrophages, and neurons, and mutations in its iron-responsive element cause Neuroferritinopathy (NBIA type 3), a dominantly inherited movement disorder with progressive iron accumulation in the basal ganglia visible on MRI.

This rabbit polyclonal reagent from antibodies.com is supplied unconjugated at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol cryoprotectant. The 100 µL vial is validated for Western blot, where it labels the characteristic ~19-20 kDa light-chain band, and for immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections from human, mouse, and rat samples. The glycerol-supplemented buffer allows the antibody to be stored frozen at -20 °C with minimal freeze-thaw damage; small-volume single-use aliquots are recommended to preserve activity across multiple experiments.
