Raised in rabbit against fibroblast growth factor 23, this unconjugated polyclonal reagent is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2. The Antibodies.com primary antibody is packaged as a 100 µl volume and validated for Western blot detection in human, mouse, and rat samples.

FGF-23 is a 32 kDa endocrine member of the FGF family secreted principally by osteocytes and osteoblasts in bone. After secretion into the circulation it acts on the kidney, where it suppresses sodium-phosphate cotransporters (NaPi-IIa/IIc) in the proximal tubule to promote phosphaturia, inhibits 1α-hydroxylase to reduce active calcitriol synthesis, and induces 24-hydroxylase. The hormone is cleaved by furin between Arg179 and Ser180, generating separate N-terminal and C-terminal fragments whose relative abundance can affect downstream assay interpretation. Disordered FGF-23 signalling is central to phosphate and vitamin D homeostasis and is implicated in X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets, autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets, tumor-induced osteomalacia, and elevated circulating levels seen in chronic kidney disease.

Validated for Western blot workflows after standard SDS-PAGE and membrane transfer, the polyclonal mixture increases the likelihood of detecting the target across species and isoforms. Aliquoting on first use is recommended to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and the sodium azide content should be considered when planning experiments with live cells or coupling reactions. The reagent should be refrigerated for short-term use and frozen for longer retention; protect from light. Empirical validation is advised if the antibody is applied beyond the validated Western blot use.
