Raised in rabbit against squalene synthase, this polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com targets FDFT1, the endoplasmic reticulum-resident enzyme that catalyses the head-to-head condensation of two farnesyl pyrophosphate molecules to form squalene, a committed step in sterol and cholesterol biosynthesis. Supplied as a 100 µl vial at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, the unconjugated reagent is validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence on human, mouse, and rat samples.

FDFT1 sits at a metabolic branch point between sterol and non-sterol isoprenoid pathways, and altered expression has been examined in hepatic lipid studies, keratinisation disorders, and cancer cell lines with modified cholesterol dependence. Western blot typically resolves a band near 47 kDa, consistent with the predicted mass of the full-length human protein, while immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence are used to localise the enzyme within the endoplasmic reticulum of cultured cells and tissue sections. Store the vial at -20 °C, aliquot on first use to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and avoid sodium azide-containing diluent in any protocol requiring live-cell compatibility.
