EMMPRIN (also known as CD147 and basigin) is a heavily glycosylated type-I transmembrane immunoglobulin superfamily protein, and this Antibodies.com polyclonal antibody is raised in rabbit to detect the human form. EMMPRIN induces matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) production in neighboring fibroblasts and has been implicated in tumor invasion, leukocyte signaling, malaria parasite entry into erythrocytes (where basigin acts as the PfRh5 receptor), and as an auxiliary factor in SARS-CoV viral entry. On Western blots the glycoprotein resolves at an apparent molecular weight near 50–58 kDa, reflecting the mature glycosylated form.

This reagent is supplied unconjugated in a 100 µl vial and is intended for Western blot and ELISA applications on human-derived samples. The polyclonal backbone recognizes multiple epitopes across the protein, which helps when probing alternatively glycosylated isoforms or the soluble ectodomain fragment shed from the cell surface.
