Raised in rabbit as a polyclonal reagent against the ELAVL1 RNA-binding protein, also known as HuR, this unconjugated primary antibody from Antibodies.com is supplied at 1 mg/ml in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant, packaged as a 100 µl volume ready for dilution into working stocks.

ELAVL1 binds AU-rich elements in the 3′ untranslated regions of mRNAs and stabilizes transcripts involved in inflammation, cell-cycle control, and cellular stress responses. The reagent is therefore useful for researchers examining post-transcriptional gene regulation, oncogenic signalling, and hypoxia-driven expression changes. It is validated for western blot detection of the human target and is also reactive against mouse and rat orthologues, supporting comparative work across the most common mammalian model systems.

The polyclonal host response increases the probability of recognizing multiple epitopes on HuR, which is helpful when probing full-length protein and its characteristic nuclear-to-cytoplasmic shuttling. For western blot, the antibody can be applied to whole-cell lysates prepared from cultured human or rodent cells, with signal developed using standard HRP- or fluorophore-conjugated secondary reagents. Store the glycerol stock refrigerated at -20 °C in working aliquots to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and protect from light to preserve the unconjugated formulation.
