Raised in rabbit and supplied by Antibodies.com as an unconjugated polyclonal antiserum, this reagent targets eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4G (eIF4G), the scaffolding subunit of the eIF4F cap-binding complex. eIF4G bridges cap-bound eIF4E, the RNA helicase eIF4A, and eIF3 to load the 40S ribosomal subunit onto mRNA, making it a focal point in studies of cap-dependent translation control, cellular stress responses, and viral takeover of host protein synthesis. Cleavage of eIF4G by picornavirus 2A and L proteases is a classical model for translational shutoff in infected cells, and altered eIF4G integrity is also implicated in oncogenic translational reprogramming. The antibody recognizes an epitope spanning residue 1232 of the human eIF4G sequence and is validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. It is provided as 100 µl of liquid antiserum for research use only, and should be handled with standard cold-chain precautions to preserve immunoreactivity across multiple staining and blotting experiments.
