Raised in rabbit against the beta subunit of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 (EIF2S2, also called eIF2β), this unconjugated polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is supplied as a 100 µl liquid stock at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, ready to dilute directly into standard immunodetection workflows. The reagent is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry and recognises the target in human, mouse and rat samples, supporting translational studies that compare initiation-factor expression across species. EIF2S2 forms the beta subunit of the heterotrimeric eIF2 complex together with EIF2S1 (alpha) and EIF2S3 (gamma); it interacts directly with GTP and the initiator methionyl-tRNA, anchoring the ternary complex that delivers Met-tRNAi to the 40S ribosomal subunit. That central role in protein synthesis makes EIF2S2 a useful marker for research on translation initiation, the integrated stress response, and the PERK-, GCN2-, HRI- and PKR-mediated eIF2α phosphorylation cascades that reprogramme translation under amino-acid starvation, viral infection, heme deficiency or endoplasmic-reticulum stress. Sodium azide is included as a preservative, so the antibody is not appropriate for live-cell labelling or for in vivo administration where azide would be toxic. Aliquot on receipt and store refrigerated; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles to preserve affinity and to keep the polyclonal response stable over time. For research use only.
