This rabbit polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com targets Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), a 6 kDa secreted signaling peptide that binds the ErbB1/EGFR receptor tyrosine kinase and drives epithelial cell proliferation, migration, and differentiation. The unconjugated reagent is supplied as 100 µl of polyclonal antiserum, validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry on Human and Mouse specimens, making it a useful reagent for translational research programs spanning oncology, dermatology, and mucosal biology.

Epidermal Growth Factor is synthesized as a large transmembrane pro-EGF precursor of roughly 170 kDa and processed by extracellular ADAM-family and MMP proteases into the mature 53 amino acid peptide that is released into the pericellular environment. Researchers investigating receptor tyrosine kinase signaling, EGFR pathway crosstalk, salivary gland and kidney tubular function, gastric mucosal protection, and cutaneous wound re-epithelialization use anti-EGF detection to map paracrine and autocrine signaling networks in both normal and transformed tissue.

In Western blot, the antibody recognizes endogenous EGF in cell lysates and tissue homogenates, resolving the precursor and processed forms depending on sample preparation. Immunohistochemistry applications include formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections of skin, gastrointestinal mucosa, salivary gland, and kidney, where EGF expression localizes to epithelial cell populations and granular ductal structures. The reagent is provided in PBS buffer with glycerol and a sodium azide preservative; aliquot upon arrival and store refrigerated to limit freeze-thaw cycling that can erode polyclonal titer over extended storage periods.
