Raised in rabbit against desmoglein-2, this unconjugated polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com targets the endogenous transmembrane cadherin that anchors epithelial cells and cardiomyocytes within desmosomal adhesion complexes. The antibody recognizes the mature human DSG2 polypeptide, a calcium-binding glycoprotein of approximately 122 kDa that forms the adhesive core of desmosomes and the cardiac intercalated disc. Researchers use this primary antibody for Western blot analysis of human, mouse, and rat samples, detecting the single-pass transmembrane protein in cell lysates, heart tissue, and skin or intestinal epithelial preparations, where DSG2 is the only desmoglein isoform expressed in cardiomyocytes. Rodent orthologs are recognized, making the reagent useful in studies of plakoglobin, plakophilin-2, desmoplakin, and the broader desmosome assembly machinery that links the plasma membrane to the intermediate filament cytoskeleton. Because loss-of-function DSG2 variants are a documented genetic cause of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC), the antibody is commonly deployed in disease-model work, including iPSC-derived cardiomyocyte lysates and right-ventricular tissue extracts, supporting investigation of cardiomyocyte junction integrity and epithelial barrier biology. The product is supplied as 100 µl of polyclonal antiserum in a vial, unconjugated to allow flexible secondary antibody pairing with HRP, fluorescent, or biotinylated reagents. Storage is at -20°C, with aliquoting on first use recommended to minimize freeze-thaw cycles and preserve lot-to-lot consistency. Intended for research use only, not for diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
