This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets DISC1 (Disrupted in Schizophrenia 1), a multifunctional scaffold protein first linked to major mental illness through a balanced t(1;11) translocation that segregated with schizophrenia and related disorders in a large Scottish pedigree. DISC1 is expressed in the developing and adult central nervous system, where it coordinates centrosomal positioning, neurite outgrowth, mitochondrial trafficking, and synaptic signaling through interactions with partners including PDE4, NudE/NudEL, LIS1, and ATF4/5.

The antibody is supplied as a 100 µl liquid aliquot at 1 mg/ml in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant, and it is provided unconjugated for flexibility with downstream secondary labeling. It was raised in rabbit and is validated for western blot detection of DISC1 isoforms in cell and brain-tissue lysates, and for immunohistochemistry on fixed neural sections. The reagent cross-reacts with mouse and rat DISC1 in addition to the human target, supporting comparative studies in standard rodent neurodevelopmental and behavioral models.

For handling, store the glycerol stock frozen at -20 °C in small working aliquots and limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the stock solution. The unconjugated format also makes the reagent compatible with custom biotin, HRP, or fluorophore conjugations for tailored applications such as immunofluorescence or pull-down assays.
