This polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com was raised in rabbit against Desmoglein 4 (DSG4), a calcium-dependent transmembrane glycoprotein of the classical cadherin family that drives desmosomal adhesion within the inner root sheath of hair follicles and the suprabasal layers of stratified epidermis. The reagent is supplied unconjugated at 1 mg/ml in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, dispensed as a 100 µl working aliquot.

Recessive mutations in DSG4 underlie localized autosomal recessive hypotrichosis (LAH) and several related inherited hair-loss disorders, motivating protein-level studies in skin and follicular tissue. The antibody has been validated to recognize endogenous DSG4 orthologs expressed in human, mouse, and rat samples, enabling cross-species expression profiling by Western blot in whole-cell or tissue lysates.

For routine handling, refrigerate the antibody at 4°C for short-term use or store frozen at -20°C for longer retention; aliquotting on first thaw limits freeze-thaw exposure and preserves binding activity. The 0.1% sodium azide serves as a microbial preservative for repeated benchtop use. Because the polyclonal format samples multiple epitopes across the extracellular cadherin repeats and the cytoplasmic tail, the reagent offers broader detection of DSG4 isoforms, splice variants, or partial proteolysis products that a single-clone antibody may miss. Researchers studying desmosome assembly, keratinocyte differentiation, epidermal barrier biology, or DSG4-linked genodermatoses deploy this reagent for expression profiling, validation of gene-edited cell lines, and confirmatory western blots.
