Desmin (DES) is a 53 kDa class III intermediate filament protein that organizes the cytoskeleton of cardiac, skeletal, and smooth muscle cells, anchoring myofibrils at the Z-discs and serving as a core lineage marker in muscle pathology and soft tissue tumor diagnostics.
