Studying basal-layer keratinocytes, myoepithelial populations, and stratified squamous epithelia, this unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com binds Cytokeratin 14 (KRT14), the type I intermediate filament protein that maintains structural integrity of the epidermal basal compartment, the outer root sheath of hair follicles, and the contractile myoepithelium of breast and prostate tissue.

Supplied as 100 µl of antiserum at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (approximately pH 7.8) with 0.05% sodium azide as preservative, the antibody is validated for western blot detection of KRT14 in human, mouse, and rat samples. The target runs near 50 kDa on reducing SDS-PAGE gels, a position researchers routinely use to confirm epithelial origin and basal-lineage identity in skin, oral mucosa, corneal, and mammary gland lysates.

Beyond normal epithelial biology, K14 immunoblotting underpins studies of epidermolysis bullosa simplex, in which dominant missense mutations disrupt keratin filament assembly and produce skin fragility, and helps pathologists distinguish basal-like and squamous tumor subtypes in oncology research. Pairing with appropriate HRP-conjugated secondary antibodies produces a clean KRT14 band after standard ECL development, and the unconjugated format also permits downstream custom labeling.

For handling, refrigerate working aliquots at 4 °C; for extended storage, freeze at -20 °C in single-use volumes to limit freeze-thaw cycles and preserve antibody titer. Because the formulation contains sodium azide, remove the preservative by dialysis or spin column before any conjugation with horseradish peroxidase or other enzymatic reporter systems sensitive to azide inhibition.
