Raised in rabbit, this unconjugated polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com specifically recognizes Cytochrome c, a highly conserved ~12 kDa heme protein encoded by the CYCS gene on human chromosome 7. The reagent is supplied as 100 µl of liquid in a vial and is validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry applications. Cytochrome c resides in the mitochondrial intermembrane space, shuttling electrons between Complex III and Complex IV of the respiratory chain, and it is released into the cytosol during intrinsic apoptosis, which makes its detection a common readout in programmed cell death studies. The antibody shows reactivity with human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting cross-species work in cardiovascular, neuroscience, and oncology models. On western blot, the target migrates at approximately 12 kDa under reducing SDS-PAGE conditions, consistent with the mature processed form of the protein. The unconjugated format lets researchers pair the reagent with their own choice of HRP, fluorescent, or biotin detection systems.
