Raised in rabbit against the F122 region of Cystatin C, this unconjugated polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide, pH approximately 7.2. Each vial contains 50 µl of ready-to-use reagent suitable for western blot analysis of whole-cell or tissue lysates.

Cystatin C is a low molecular weight cysteine protease inhibitor of roughly 13 kDa that is constitutively secreted by virtually all nucleated cells and circulates at stable concentrations in serum. It is widely used as a biomarker for glomerular filtration rate and is studied in chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular outcomes, neurodegeneration, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and tumor invasion and metastasis. Binding has been verified in human, mouse, and rat samples, making this reagent useful for translational work across species using a single western blot protocol.

Validated for western blot, the antibody recognizes the native ~13 kDa Cystatin C band under reducing or non-reducing SDS-PAGE conditions. For short-term use, store the vial at 4°C; for longer storage, aliquot and freeze at -20°C and minimize freeze-thaw cycles to preserve activity. The sodium azide preservative should be washed out or exchanged before downstream applications such as live-cell staining, conjugation, or immunohistochemistry where azide may interfere.
