CYP8B1 (sterol 12-alpha-hydroxylase) is a microsomal cytochrome P450 enzyme that catalyzes the 12-alpha-hydroxylation step in the classical bile acid synthesis pathway, making affinity reagents against it useful tools for probing cholesterol-to-bile acid conversion in metabolic disease models.

This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent is validated for Western blot detection of CYP8B1 in human, mouse, and rat samples. The antibody is supplied as 100 µl of liquid stock at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (pH ~7.2) containing 0.05% sodium azide as a preservative, and is well matched to probing liver and hepatic cell-line lysates where CYP8B1 expression is most prominent.

From Antibodies.com, the reagent is intended for research use and supports investigations of bile acid homeostasis, hepatic lipid handling, and the metabolic consequences of altered sterol 12-alpha-hydroxylase activity in studies of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
