CYP11B1 and CYP11B2 are mitochondrial cytochrome P450 enzymes that catalyze the terminal steps of human adrenal steroidogenesis. CYP11B1 (11β-hydroxylase) acts in the zona fasciculata to convert 11-deoxycortisol to cortisol, while CYP11B2 (aldosterone synthase) operates in the zona glomerulosa to produce aldosterone from corticosterone. Loss-of-function mutations in CYP11B1 are the most frequent cause of classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and altered CYP11B1/CYP11B2 expression is investigated in primary aldosteronism, adrenal incidentalomas, and adrenocortical carcinoma.

Antibodies.com provides this rabbit polyclonal antibody raised against CYP11B1, which cross-reacts with the highly homologous CYP11B2 isoform. The unconjugated reagent is supplied as a 100 µl liquid aliquot and is validated for Western blot and ELISA on human samples. The polyclonal format is particularly useful when probing both paralogues in parallel in adrenal cortex tissue or steroidogenic cell models, or when isoform-level discrimination is not required.

Common applications include studying ACTH- and angiotensin II-driven regulation of steroidogenic enzymes, mapping CYP11B distribution across adrenal zones by western blot, and probing gene-expression changes in adrenal hyperplasia models. For western blot, resolve 20 to 40 µg of adrenal cortex lysate per lane; dilute appropriately for ELISA according to plate-coating protocol. Store at -20 degrees C in single-use working aliquots to minimize freeze-thaw cycles, and avoid sodium azide if HRP-conjugated secondary detection is planned downstream. For research use only; not for diagnostic applications.
