Produced by Antibodies.com, this unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent was raised against CYP11B1 and CYP11B2, two closely related mitochondrial cytochrome P450 enzymes of the adrenal cortex that drive the final steps of glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid biosynthesis. CYP11B1 acts primarily as 11β-hydroxylase, converting 11-deoxycortisol to cortisol in humans and 11-deoxycorticosterone to corticosterone in rodents, while CYP11B2 functions as aldosterone synthase, catalyzing the conversion of corticosterone to aldosterone in the zona glomerulosa.

The antibody is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.3, and is validated for Western blot (WB) detection in human, rat, and mouse samples. The 100 µl vial size supports multiple blot membranes. The sodium azide preservative inhibits microbial contamination, supporting refrigerated storage for routine use; aliquot and freeze the reagent for long-term preservation.

This reagent supports research programs investigating congenital adrenal hyperplasia, primary aldosteronism, salt-sensitive hypertension, adrenal cortex development, and broader steroidogenesis pathways. Because the antigenic regions shared between the two paralogs are highly conserved across species, the polyclonal antiserum detects rodent orthologues as well as the human isoforms, enabling direct comparison of adrenal tissue from laboratory models and clinical specimens. The polyclonal design also increases the likelihood of detecting denatured target on Western blot membranes even when individual epitopes are partially masked by SDS-PAGE sample buffer.
