CYP11A1 (cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme, P450scc) is the mitochondrial cytochrome P450 enzyme that catalyzes the first and rate-limiting step of steroidogenesis, converting cholesterol to pregnenolone. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets the CYP11A1 protein and is supplied for use in Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence workflows with samples from human, mouse, and rat origins.

The reagent is supplied as a 50 µl aliquot at 1 mg/ml in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, a glycerol-rich format that supports storage at -20°C with minimal freeze-thaw degradation. This product is intended for research use only and is not intended for diagnostic procedures.

CYP11A1 expression is most prominent in steroidogenic tissues including the adrenal cortex, ovarian theca and granulosa cells, testicular Leydig cells, placental trophoblast, and select neural populations involved in neurosteroid synthesis. Researchers commonly apply this reagent to studies of adrenal and gonadal development, steroid hormone regulation, reproductive biology, and disorders such as congenital adrenal hyperplasia linked to CYP11A1 dysfunction. Polyclonal reactivity offers broader epitope coverage than monoclonal alternatives, which can be advantageous when probing for sequence variation or when target abundance is low.
