The rabbit polyclonal Anti-CYP11A1 antibody from Antibodies.com is an unconjugated primary reagent that recognizes cytochrome P450 family 11 subfamily A member 1 (P450scc), the mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the first and rate-limiting step of steroidogenesis by converting cholesterol to pregnenolone. The product is supplied as 100 µl of a 1 mg/ml stock in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, allowing storage at -20 °C with minimal freeze-thaw loss of antibody activity.

CYP11A1 expression is concentrated in steroidogenic tissues, including the adrenal cortex, ovarian theca and granulosa cells, testicular Leydig cells, and placental trophoblast. The reagent cross-reacts with human, mouse, and rat samples, and the polyclonal format broadens epitope coverage on this conserved enzyme. It is validated for western blot (WB), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and immunofluorescence (IF) workflows in research applications such as reproductive biology, adrenal pathology, and gonadal development studies.

For western blot, lysates are commonly prepared from adrenal gland, ovary, testis, or steroidogenic cell lines, with an expected band near 60 kDa. For IHC and IF, 4% paraformaldehyde-fixed sections are typically used, and detection relies on a fluorescent or HRP-conjugated secondary antibody against rabbit IgG. The 0.1% sodium azide allows short-term handling at 4 °C without microbial contamination, and a brief centrifugation step before pipetting is recommended to recover the full stock.
