CYP11A1 (also known as P450scc or cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme) is the mitochondrial cytochrome P450 enzyme that catalyzes the initial and rate-limiting step of steroidogenesis, converting cholesterol to pregnenolone. The Antibodies.com rabbit polyclonal reagent targets this enzyme and is supplied as a 100 µL vial at 1 mg/mL in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant.

This unconjugated polyclonal antibody detects endogenous CYP11A1 in samples from human, mouse, and rat origins, supporting comparative studies of steroidogenic tissues such as adrenal cortex, gonads, and placenta. Researchers investigating hormone biosynthesis, reproductive biology, adrenal function, or disorders of steroid metabolism commonly use this reagent to profile protein expression across model systems.

The unconjugated format allows flexibility in secondary antibody selection and detection chemistry, including chemiluminescent Western blot and fluorescence-based immunocytochemistry imaging. Store at -20 °C in the supplied glycerol-containing buffer to preserve activity across multiple freeze-thaw cycles; for short-term use, keep refrigerated at 4 °C. Aliquoting upon first use is recommended. For research use only.
